DIGHTON — Police Chief governance change moves to town warrant. The Dighton Board of Selectmen voted 2-0 with one abstention to place Police Chief George Nichols' Strong Chief designation proposal on the town warrant, which would grant the chief expanded authority over personnel decisions while preserving selectmen's oversight of budget and appointments. The board also unanimously appointed Donna Gilbride as Library Page and awarded on-call engineering services to PARE Corp.
Superintendent Bill Runey of the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District reported the Dighton Elementary School project would cost between $118 million and $123 million under the preferred Option 3B construction scheme.
