Board of Health · Meeting of July 21, 2026

Dighton Board of Health approves Pay-As-You-Throw bag contract with Waste Zero and wrestles with flagging farmers market attendance. The board voted unanimously July 21 to award the town's trash bag supply contract to Waste Zero, identified as the lowest bidder, and signed corrected betterment loan documents for 2001 Buck Plain Road. Town Administrator Paul Woodbury told the board he would raise the future of the Stormwater Committee, which the board had previously voted to relinquish, at the Select Board meeting the following evening, noting that existing regulations still name the Board of Health as the administering authority and that any formal transfer requires Town Meeting action.

Office Manager Ashley and Town Nurse Becca offered a stream of outreach ideas, flyers at Hannaford's, school backpack stuffers, Instagram and TikTok posts, and a possible co-location with a touch-a-truck or health fair, to reverse declining attendance at the fledgling farmers market after its strong opening event; the board agreed to continue the market through at least October. A project manager identified only as Kiro described discovering an undisclosed 1,500-gallon septic tank, installed in 1985, beneath a restaurant parking lot during a building renovation, and the board directed Health Agent Liz to notify the building department that no certificate of occupancy can issue until a licensed engineer submits a compliant septic plan.
