Dighton Select Board Unanimously Denies Auto Dealer License Over Fraud Investigation

Select Board · Meeting of June 10, 2026

Dighton Select Board denies auto dealer license after police fraud investigation, approves blighted Spring Street building permits. The board voted unanimously June 10 to reject a Class 2 motor vehicle dealer application from Stephen Remy of Bristol County Auto Sales at 2387 Winter Street, following a memo from Deputy Chief Ryan Richards detailing probable cause of fraudulent sales, licensing violations in Massachusetts and Maine, and "aggressive behavior, threats" toward customers seeking recourse. Attorney Mack Long, appearing for Remy, asked the board to continue the matter until the parallel Dighton and Maine State Police investigations closed; the board declined.

The board separately voted not to rescind the existing license of Stephen Prock, a former license holder at the same address who board members said was not implicated. In other business, Highway Superintendent Tom Ferry reported Main Street drainage is roughly two-thirds complete under an ARPA deadline of September 1, while sidewalk completion — estimated at $1.3 million — and paving remain unfunded. The board also voted unanimously to waive the tax-lien permit bar for 620 Spring Street, allowing a developer identified as Paul to begin emergency facade repairs on a long-vacant commercial complex he described as part of a $5.9 million rehabilitation project expected to bring roughly 120 jobs to the Three Mile River corridor.
