Dighton Selectmen Vote to Hire Recruiter for Highway Chief Search

Select Board · Meeting of September 9, 2026

Dighton selectmen table cemetery appointment, hire recruiter for highway chief succession. The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to retain an outside consulting firm, at a cost of roughly $10,000, to recruit a successor to the town's highway superintendent, known in discussion only as Tom, ahead of his planned retirement in January 2027. "We want to get the best possible person for the job," one board member said, citing past success with management consulting searches.

The board tabled the appointment of Paul Silvia to the Cemetery Commission after members raised a possible conflict with his existing town cemetery maintenance contract. Also Wednesday: the board approved warrants totaling $504,806.59, reviewed a letter naming new call firefighters Autumn Duart and Jacob Hillen, and got a heads-up on a state-mandated solar and battery-storage permitting deadline of October 1.
