Dighton Appoints Interim Building Inspector, Advances Regional Service Agreements with Berkeley

DIGHTON — June 3, 2026 — Dighton and Berkeley move toward shared animal control and public health staffing in a joint board session. The Dighton Select Board and Berkeley Board of Selectmen met June 3 at Bristol Agricultural School to advance draft intermunicipal agreements for shared animal control officer and Board of Health agent services, while Dighton unanimously appointed Berkeley resident Joseph Lisko as a special municipal employee and interim building inspector, not to exceed 19 hours per week, for an expected 30-day term. On the animal control proposal — built around Dighton's roughly $28,000 ACO budget, including a $75-per-call weekend stipend — both boards agreed to revise a termination clause in Article Seven from "immediately" to 90 days' notice if Berkeley ever enacts its own animal impoundment regulations. The shared health agent proposal, which would add up to seven hours per week of Dighton's 28-hour-per-week health agent's time to Berkeley without reducing her Dighton hours, was referred to both towns' Boards of Health for scheduling review before the Select Boards take a final vote.
