Open Space Panel Finalizes Oct. 3 Cleanup Plans
Other Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Dighton Open Space Committee locks in Oct. 3 cleanup day with football team, BJ's donations. Chairperson Jonathan Gale said the Dighton High School football team will volunteer during a Saturday practice period, joining 17 already-signed-up residents across six priority sites including Brook Street, Tri-Centennial Park and a roughly two-acre state-owned island near Route 44. BJ's Wholesale Club agreed to donate sandwiches, water and iced tea, while Gale said he's aiming to keep additional costs to $150 to $200 for safety vests and gloves.
Clerk Danica Belknap said town parks should be prioritized over roadside sites "because not only is it safer for volunteers, but it's like a gathering space." The committee also flagged a possible free parcel near Horton Street adjacent to protected water resources and approved its Aug. 12 minutes unanimously.
