Dighton Open Space Committee Partners With Parks and Rec on October 3 Cleanup Day
Other Committee · Meeting of July 8, 2026
Dighton Open Space Committee sets October 3 as target date for first townwide cleanup day with Parks and Recreation. Chairperson Jonathan Gale and committee members Danica Belknap, Leonard Ho, and Ken voted unanimously to move forward after Parks and Recreation Commission member Pat LaDuke attended the July 8 meeting to discuss a joint event. The plan calls for volunteers to gather at Old Town Hall around 8:30 a.m., clean assigned sites from 9 to 11 a.m., and return by 11:30 a.m.; four to seven sites including Elm Street, Lane Field, and Tricentennial Park are under consideration, with an online sign-up sheet targeted for launch by August 15.
The committee also reported a promising contact with Wildlands Trust, a regional land conservation organization open to partnering with Dighton on land acquisition and land trust formation, and declined to take a formal position on the Dighton Planning Board's recommendation that the town's Stormwater Committee be disbanded, with Gale stating, "I don't think it's really our place" as a committee.
