DIGHTON — The Dighton Economic Development Committee ended a two-month quorum gap and voted to recommend a new member. Members Raphael Delfin, Lori Smith, Dan Higgins and Bennett Hall voted 4-0 by roll call to recommend a candidate named Robin for appointment, pending final sign-off from the Board of Selectmen. The committee reported 90 new business certificates filed with the town clerk since July and drew a winner, a preschool-related business whose name was not clear on the recording, for a Lions Club-style sign board at Forrest and Tremont streets.
Members also discussed a proposed "Taste of Dighton" promotion, weighing a $75 gift-certificate raffle against a simpler "farm passport" model borrowed from the Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership. The Board of Assessors' $10,000 personal-property tax exemption for home-based businesses and a prior zoning change expanding home-business rules also came up. "We actually haven't met since July because of quorum issues," one member said.
The committee approved its May 25 and July 27 minutes and adjourned unanimously.
